An Eternal Blessing

I still remember the date. It was 4th of March 2012 and a sunny Sunday. Like any other Sundays, I decided to wake up late. But I was wrong; as my mother came to my room and woke me up and asked me to help her in the household work. At first I was very angry with the fact that my mother wouldn’t allow me to sleep more. But, nevertheless I woke up making a gloomy face. I helped my mother in preparing lunch. That day she taught me how to cook rice. I was least interested in learning how to cook, as all I wanted to do was rest. We had a huge argument over this issue and I ended up telling her that she did not love me, and she was torturing me. I could see tears in her eyes, but I did not say anything.
So after lunch, I went for a nap. When I woke up, I saw that it was quite dark. I called out my mother, but she was not responding. At first I thought maybe she couldn’t hear my voice. So I decided to have a look. I went to the living room, but couldn’t find her. Then a thought struck me, maybe she was in her room. So I decided to have a look there. But to my surprise, she was not there even. I was afraid as to where she went. It was so dark outside, and my mind was trailing through different types of thought. I was petrified. Suddenly I heard a faint sound, calling out my name. I was bewildered, as to where the sound came from, since I was all alone. But mustering some courage, I decided to see from where the sound came from. As I moved towards the terrace, I could hear the voice more distinctly. It was as if that person was calling out for my help. But when I got to the terrace, I saw there was nobody. I was sweating profusely as I was afraid. For the very first time in the day, I was feeling guilty that I fought with my mother for a pity issue. All she wanted was my help in the household chore, but I acted so foolishly and argued with her. I started crying. I was missing my mother badly. I decided to look in the neighborhood. But I looked everywhere finding no trace of her.  My father was also not at home, as he was out of station for his official work. I was afraid to tell my father, that maa was missing. With no option at hand, I called my father. But to add to my bad luck, my phone was dead, and there was no electricity in our locality. My mind was not working now. I came to my home, and sat in the verandah, crying and calling out her name. I was very guilty of my actions. I did not know what to do. Then suddenly a thought struck me. May be I should go to the police station and report my mother was missing.
I walked down the road towards the police station. But to my horror, the road was not ending. I was walking, but could not find the police station. I did not lose hope, and kept on walking till I came to a dead end. I saw a huge wall there. Suddenly out of the blues, I saw a fairy coming towards me. Seeing her, I was afraid and again I started crying. She pacified me, and said that she will help me find my mother. With no options at hand, I trusted her. She touched the wall, and lo! The wall opened just like a door. She asked me to follow her. I obeyed her. I saw that I was in a fairy land. It was a sight to behold. There were colorful flowers, birds, insects and animals everywhere. There was greenery everywhere. I have never seen such a surreal beauty in my life before. I could see the birds chirping cheerfully. When I distinctly listen to them, I could hear they were talking just like humans. It was something I always read in fairy tales or saw in movies. Seeing them for real was like a dream. Seeing such mesmerizing beauty I forgot that I came here looking for my mother. I wanted to run hither and tether and enjoy the scenic beauty of this fairy land. All this time the fairy was smiling lovingly seeing me happy.  But, suddenly I realized I did not come here to enjoy, but to look for my mother. I felt a very positive vibe, that my mother could be somewhere here. When I looked around, I saw that the fairy was nowhere to be seen. I became confused and did not know what to do, where to look for her. All of a sudden, I had two problems at hand now, first to find the fairy and second was to find my mother. I decided that instead of wasting my time, I should better get going and find both of them. I saw a signboard and decided to see what it was. I thanked my stars, as I saw that it was a direction towards a road. I heaved a sigh of relief and walked towards the road. On my way, I could feel that someone was keeping a close watch on me. I did not lose courage and kept on walking. When I came to the end of the road, I saw a beautiful palace. The palace was made of gold, diamonds, ruby, emeralds and pearls. Seeing such a beautiful palace, I was mesmerized. I wanted to visit the palace. Maybe I could find my mother there. So I went ahead to ask the gatekeeper to allow me to go to the palace. The gatekeeper was a huge bull dog, who was standing it its hind legs. I was bewildered as I have never seen such a thing. The dog was wearing a uniform. Seeing the dog, I was afraid, but he was very kind to me and allowed me to go ahead. On my way, I could see guards everywhere. Interestingly, all the guards were bull dogs standing in their hind legs and wearing uniform. They were staring at me, as if I was an alien. When I entered the palace, I was awe struck. The palace had such beautiful interiors. The chandeliers were made of pearls. The palace attendants wore beautiful gold dresses. The palace attendants were flying fairies. They had tiny little wings. They smiled as I moved in the palace. One of the attendants took me to their Queen. When I saw the Queen, I was shocked, because she was none other than the fairy I met near the walls. When she saw me, she smiled at me. She said she was expecting me. Then she asked me how I lost my mother. I narrated the whole incident to her. When she heard out my story, she was very furious with me. She said it was very rude on my part to hurt my mother. She said, parents always think the best for their child and it was very stupid on my part to hurt her feelings. I was feeling guilty of my actions. I started crying and begged her to help me find my mother. But she was adamant. She said I deserve a punishment for my deeds. So she sent me to a dungeon. I was very afraid and was thinking what difficulties I will be facing. But, nevertheless I accepted my punishment, because I knew I was being punished for my deeds.
I followed the guards and he locked me up in the dungeon. It was very dark down there. I was praying to God to save me. I was feeling very remorseful of my actions. I promised to myself I would never fight with my mother. I will obey her. I was so tired of the events of the whole day, that when I dozed off, I didn’t realize. I was praying that all that I have faced was a dream, and not a reality. When I woke up, I realized to my horror, that it was not a dream, but I was really in a dungeon. I was feeling very hungry and thirsty but there was nothing for me to eat there, not even a drop of water. Cursing my luck, I sat there thinking about my mother. How she used to take care of me, how she used to feed me and never let me sleep hungry. She was always there in my happiness and my sadness. All she wanted was to make me learn how to do household chores. And due to my stupidity, I have lost her. I had no clue where she was. I again started crying. I was badly missing my mother. I did not know till when I had to be in the dungeon. Suddenly I saw a streak of light coming from a corner of the dungeon. I said to myself, don’t lose hope, this is your way to get out of this horrible place. I moved towards the light and saw that there was a tiny hole in the dungeon from where the light was coming. My hopes soared and I started digging the hole. When I was finally done, I went out of the hole. But alas! I was inside water. Yes, I was swimming now inside a huge ocean. I decided to swim further, with a hope that I will find a clue to go to my mother. I kept swimming deeper and deeper, until I reached a stone. The stone was very beautiful and it was shining like a diamond. Then I realized that it was light of the stone that penetrated inside the dark dungeon. I wanted to touch it, but as I neared the stone, a heavy wave of water came and hit me. I was in utter shock, as to where the water came from. The water came with such a force, that I had no time to think how to escape. I was swirling inside the water and suddenly I saw a glimpse of my mother. I was in tears as I saw her. I wanted to hug her, but I was stuck in the water. I thought that my end is near, but at the same time I was happy, that before dying I could see my mother. I just closed my eyes and prayed to God. I felt like I was fainting. Before I could do anything, I fell down with a thud. I did not know where I was. When I opened my eyes, I saw that I was in my room, and was in the floor. It took a while for me to realize that I was in my room, and I fell down from my bed. I cried out for my mother, and she came rushing to my room. When I saw her, I could not control my happiness and hugged her tightly. She said if anything was wrong with me as earlier in the day I fought with her and now I was hugging her. I cried profusely and said that I had a horrible dream that I have lost her forever. I thanked my stars that my mother was with me. She said, she would always stay with me no matter what. I said sorry to my mother with a promise not to fight with her ever again. She said she have forgiven me because she knew that I did not hurt her intentionally. That day I realized that no matter what, our parents always forgive us for our wrong doings. They scold us because they want that we grow up to be a good individual. From that day, I always listened to my mother in whatever she tells me. I realized that dreams can also teach us lessons in life.
So this brings an end to my story. Our parents always want that their son or daughter grows up to be a good human being. They are the first teacher of our life. They teach us what is right and what is wrong. They scold us for our mistakes. They want us to be successful. And as a child, we all have responsibilities towards our parents. It saddens me very much when I see elderly people being neglected by their children. The other day, I was travelling to my workplace and saw an elderly man begging in the bus. I felt very bad for him, that at this age, he was begging. The elderly man cried in the bus, and he shouted that if you look after your parents, you will get blessings only. They expect nothing from you, but only a little care when they become old. In our society, there are very rare people who look after their parents when they become old. Throughout their life time, our parents work day and night just to give us a good life. They educate us and make us what we are today. They make innumerable sacrifices for us just to make us a successful human being. We are lucky enough to get the love and care of our parents. Our parents love will always remain with us till the end of time. It is our moral responsibility to look after them in their old age.
